NEW LOW CARBON BUSINESS UNITS ROSLISTON ENTERPRISE CENTRE, BURTON ROAD, ROSLISTON, SWADLINCOTE, DERBYSHIRE

The new Enterprise Centre business units located at the Rosliston Forestry Centre are designed as low carbon facilities to provide modern working environments that demonstrate energy efficiency and help to develop rural woodland based enterprises and activities. These buildings are very thermally efficient and will achieve BREEAM ``Excellent`` standards and an energy performance rating of `A`. There are five units in a terrace with an adjacent plant room and shared toilet facilities. Staff car parking and customer car parking is provided, together with a rear loading area. The heating, hot water and ventilation systems have been designed as renewable, efficient, integrated and intelligent systems to minimise the use of energy. The heating is based upon a log fired boiler utilising thinnings from the surrounding woodland, an accumulator to even out demand and a solar collector to provide additional provision in the winter and be the primary source in the summer. Hot water is delivered to the toilet and shower facilities sited adjacent to the accumulator. Heating is delivered via radiant panels that heat people, not the air and have a very quick response time to minimise energy consumption. Linked to this is an automatic passive ventilation system, that again minimises heat loss and energy whilst ensuring a comfortable environment for the occupants. The single storey units are entirely framed and clad with softwood from UK sustainable sources.
